WHAT IS A BLOG?
Issue date: 2/22/07 Section: Impact Staff Blogs
As of February of 2007, the Impact Staff will update its section entitled "Impact Staff Blogs" every Monday during the school year. It is part of our new mission to keep you reading! (and keep us writing…)
Blogs began to talk politics with others or just "vent feelings"; now it is has evolved into ways to meet new people and discuss everything from movies to video games.
So what is a Blog? A blog is actually a term derived from "Web Log" that was eventually merged into one word. (Even in cyberspace, we are trying to cut space and unnecessary words.) Blogs are considered online journals were the writer can pretty much write about…well anything they desire. Do not confuse the Impact's blogs with diary entries (although some users in cyberspace do use them for that function.) The Impact will actually be writing in a form of blogging known as "J-Blogging" (short for journalist blogging).
In a blog, theoretically, you can post information without any proof or defense for your point of view, while in a J-Blog, opinions will still be reinforced by facts, yet for once Impact reporters will have the opportunity to express their own points of view in stories.
Topics will include everything from Mercy College news to national events, to either inform or entertain our readers (and hopefully both.)
So hopefully we've given you enough reason to log onto our website at least once a week to see what we are writing about…and hopefully spark your own creative juices.
