CBS Feature and Education reporter Morry Alter was awarded a Quill Award for professional achievement in the field of journalism by Mercy College on May 3 at the 22nd annual ceremony.
Alter, a features reporter for CBS and winner of more than 20 Emmy Awards, entertained the audience with anecdotes about how his career began as a salesman in the Midwest and how he forgot to include a subject's age in the first obituary he ever wrote.
"It's wonderful for students to hear real life experiences from such a well-known journalist and television personality," said media studies professor, Michael Perrota.
Receiving the Outstanding Alumni Award was Joseph Frango, senior copy editor for Time Inc. He discussed how he as encountered bias while working in the media, but not while he was at Mercy, and how he fondly remembered earning his education at the college.
