Mercy sponsored its annual career fair at the Manhattan Campus on April 12 and Dobbs Ferry on April 19, as students interviewed with various employers for full-time, part-time, and internship positions.
The event was run by Marguerite A. Busetti, a Mercy employee for 23 years and Director of College Planning and Placement since 1991.
Busetti spent all year getting company information and talking to employers to get a match between what programs Mercy offers and what the employment requirements are. She remains loyal to the companies that continue to come back to the event, she said, but it's also very important for her to get newer companies to participate as well.
"The reason for having these fairs is to help students find full-time jobs, part-time jobs, or internships. It gives them an opportunity to network and make contact with employers for career information," said Busetti.
Mercy's first career fair was held in 1991. The event is now held twice a year and an multiple campuses. Busetti stated the fairs are useful for undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni.
"The employment list has grown to 110 companies participating and expects more than 400 students visiting from all of the campuses. Mercy holds the largest college fair in Westchester County," said Busetti.
Pedro Deleon, a Mercy freshman at the Bronx campus majoring in psychology, went to the career fair looking for an internship or a full-time job. "I went to the career fair because it's a good way for me to get my name out there and hopefully get a call soon from the companies that I gave my resume to," said Deleon
Natasha Mathew, a student attending the Bronx and Manhattan campuses, who is a social work major in the Behavioral Science Program went to the career fair in Manhattan and found two jobs that interested her. She was told that she should be getting a call soon for an interview.
"I went to the career fair because I need to find a job, and this gave me a great opportunity to do that," said Mathews.
