It took until his fifteenth year but Bill Sullivan has achieved his dream. The head baseball coach has now become the Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations.
Sullivan said, "It had always been a dream of mine to make athletics a career." Now he is a full-time staff member for the Mercy Athletic Department.
Sullivan said that his dream started when he wanted to become a professional athlete as his career.
With Sullivan's title as Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations he said his main duties are to be a link for the coaching staff to the Athletic Director as well as support games and practices. He will also be a large part of event planning and operations on game day as well as other duties
In the press release, the Athletic Director, Dr.Kevin McGinniss called him a "welcome addition" to the full-time staff. McGinniss added," Sullivan shares the vision we have for the department and our commitment to excellence."
Steve Balsan, former Sports Information Director and Asst. Athletic Director of 16 years, said, "Adding the new position and specifically hiring Billy Sullivan is, in my opinion, one of the best moves the college could have made."
Sullivan said in regards to Balsan's remarks, "It means a lot. You don't look for praise but it does mean a lot."
Sullivan said that he has received a great amount of support from everyone, saying, "We are truly in this together." "We are going to make this work," he added.
In terms of his transition, Sullivan called it "smooth." He said, "I knew all the coaches and I worked with Dr.McGinniss." "It is not like I was stepping into something new for me." He chuckled, saying, "So far, so good."
"We will get to where Mercy College needs to be athletically," Sullivan said. "We'll make it happen," he added.
