A new coach and the same winning attitude have the Lady Flyers in position for yet another successful volleyball season.
Last year, the Lady Flyers team were 17-11 overall with a 7-4 record in New York Collegiate Athletic Conference. On Oct. 4, they beat the University of Bridgeport after coming back from a 2-0 deficit to take a 42-44, 28-30, 30-28, 30-25, 15-8 victory. Monica Herrera's 26 kills led the Lady Flyers to their third five-set conference victory of the season.
The team is ranked second in the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference this season.
One of the reasons for success could be attributed to the new head coach of the team, Jennifer Addison, who replaces Garvey Pierre after eight seasons with the team. In her first year as head coach, Addison has the team ranked fourth in kills (14.12 per game), assists (11.93 per game), and in hitting percentage (.219) in the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference this season.
Returning this season are senior Katiana Dorfleus, junior Mariola St. Fleur and senior Simone Forbes. These three players are ranked in the top 10 in several categories in the conference. Dorfleus leads the conference in hitting percentage with .423, St. Fleur ranks third in kills, averaging 3.80 kills a game, while Herrera joins her in the top ten in kills with 3.41 kills per game. Forbes is third in assists for the conference by averaging just over 11 assists per game.
The squad is ranked fourth in the Northeast and is 18-10-1 overall as it prepares for the post-season.
