Mercy College, as a whole, is now under new management.
While last month there was controversy over the termination of the campus deans and other employees, the focus this month is on how newly created positions will improve the inner workings of the college.
In an e-mail sent out to the Mercy College Community, Vice President for Enrollment Thomas Milton addressed the placement of current Mercy employees into the vacant spots, rather than outside hiring: "I am happy to announce that we have filled some key positions in the new campus management structure with colleagues whom many of you know."
Susan Reihm, previously the Dean of the White Plains campus, was named Director of Campus Management. Reihm will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the five campuses. Milton added, "Reporting to Susan will be three new Campus Managers: Terry Rich at Dobbs Ferry, Jim Dooley at the Bronx, and Monica Foote at Manhattan." Although they are all new to their positions, none are new to the Mercy College community.
Monica Foote, who was previously an Assistant Dean at the Manhattan Campus, was named Campus Manager for the Manhattan Campus. On the topic of what brought about the change in administration, Foote stated to The Impact, "Things needed to be addressed, it was necessary. One of the main things that obviously needed to be addressed was efficiency; it was something that we all knew."
The new administrative model, which was officially implemented on April 22, 2005, is known as the "One-Stop Model".
"It is a widely used model, and the reality is that students can only benefit from it. Now billing, financial aid, registration, and other aspects of the college experience can all be addressed in one area, as opposed to the situation prior to the change," she said.
The hiring process for the new positions reportedly took approximately a month to complete, and was facilitated by a panel of interviewers consisting of staffers from different departments. According to Foote, it was a "fair process which ultimately placed people in positions in which they could contribute the most to the college community."
In reference to her position, Foote comments, "It's a much broader position. Now I'm much more involved with the enrollment process and I'm very excited about it."
