As the spring semester ends, seniors are getting anxious for graduation day.
Damaris Lopez, a soon-to-be-graduate, cannot wait. "I have been waiting four years for this day. I cannot believe it is finally here." Over 3,000 seniors, both graduate and undergraduate, may share her feelings.
They will receive their degrees in the May 25 ceremony at the Westchester County Center. Rosemarie Murray, an English professor, said all graduation candidates received a personal letter in the mail at the beginning of April. In the letter, general information was given to each graduate regarding location, time, tickets and cap and gown information. With less than a month to prepare, Murray said the best advice is for undergraduates to arrive by 11:30 a.m. and graduates to arrive by 4:30 p.m. Ceremonies begin at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
Cap and gowns can be purchased via the Internet (www.efollett.com), or at http://www.mercy-dobbs.bkstr.com. Students can also order them directly at the Dobbs Ferry and Bronx campus bookstores beginning May 10. They can also be purchased at the other campuses on select days between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.: Manhattan Campus, 6th floor (5/17), White Plains (5/18) and Yorktown (5/19).
Candidates can only pick up guest tickets with a Mercy ID or driver's license from any Mercy campus. Also, seniors should know that their photographs will be taken after they receive their degrees.
Guest speaking for the undergraduate graduation will be Pasquale D'Amuro, President and CEO of Giuliani Security & Safety. D'Amuro spent 26 years with the FBI in the field of counterterrorism. He is regarded as an internationally recognized expert in the subject.
Speaking at the graduate ceremony will be Dr. Harris Stratyner, class of '77. Stratyner is the Clinical Division Director of Addiction/Recovery Services for the Mount Sinai Medical Center and Associate Professor of Psychiatry
Chapell Studios will photograph each graduate receiving their diploma from Mercy President, Dr. Louise Feroe. Students will have proofs mailed to them at no charge, and with no obligation. Interested parties can contact Chapell independently for purchases. For a $20 fee, students can purchase a DVD of the ceremony. Contact Ivy Kelly at IKelly@mercy.edu or (914) 674-7321 by June 6.
Keisha Holness, a senior, was hoping that a meeting would take place before graduation day. Unfortunately because many students were unable to attend meetings in prior years, a meeting was not scheduled. If you are interested to know what will take place on commencement day, check pipeline under the heading "What to expect the day of commencement."
On the other hand, Holness cannot contain her excitement. She says "This is great; not only am I getting my degree. I also get to go shopping."
For any other information regarding graduation contact Rosemarie Murray via e-mail at murray@pipeline.mercy.edu. Directions to graduation can be found at /www.westchestergov.com/parks/Directions/Individual/CountyCenter.htm on the web.
