Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree

No band has elicited such unprecedented hate and love in the pop-punk rock world as Fall Out Boy. They have been heralded as both the saviors of the death of the genre. With the release of their extremely anticipated sophomore effort From Under the Cork Tree the band is doing nothing but further fueling the fire. If you loved the band before you are going to fall even harder if you hated them you're going to wish they were dead, either way this album is going to blow a hole in this scene.
The album starts off at full speed with "Our Lawyers Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued", poking fun at all their worst criticisms and wrapping it up in an incredibly catchy package. Older fans of the band will feel right at home with most of the album ,which doesn't stray far from the formula found on the bands first release, Take This To Your Grave. "Sugar We're Going Down", the first single off the album, is one of those songs infinitely more catchy than any of the bands previous work, featuring a chorus that will be engrained in your head from the first listen, and is perfectly suited to be blaring out of the radio dial all summer long. The rest of the album offers up a bit of a style change with more structured guitar parts and varied yet impressive vocals, which may take a bit of getting used to. Songs like "I've Got A Dark Alley and A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth" feature a much more mature vibe both lyrically and musically. "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" is a total step outside of the box from the band but still manages to work very well. The albums production is also top notch in the sense that it is unnoticeable - there is no layer of effects plastered on the tracks keeping a clean vibe that really works well for the band. This is an album best served by listening from start to finish. The band set out to make a great album, not a pile of singles, and succeeded greatly.
