Despite a disappointing outcome last season by finishing with a 6-20 record and losing its last 10 games, this season could have meant more of the same for the men's basketball team.
Things might have looked even more unsettling for the Flyers when they began the season with three consecutive losses and struggling in the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference, but since the men's team has turned things around.
After losing 13 consecutive games dating back to last year, the team came back with a vengeance to dig themselves out of the rut.

"(You) don't get too down, and (you) don't compromise the confidence you had in your players," said assistant coach Sean Kelly. Kelly spoke only with good regards about his players, who said that that their "core of seniors" helped the team stay positive, such as veterans Kris Laurenceau, Alwyn Waldron and Kevin Green. Laurenceau averaged 13.2 points per to lead the team in scoring. Waldron, the team's overall leading rebounder, ripped down 154 balls off the glass this season. Green led the team in rebounds per game with 7.2
Mercy broke its streak against Bridgeport University in a blowout, 71-55.
More things seem to be going their way this season than they were last. First of all, the team is not plagued with injuries like it was last season. Also, it has a new face in freshman Chanze Wellington that Kelly seems to feel has been a real difference maker. And he also takes pride in Dominic Cuzzi's play, calling him, "one of the best three-point shooters in the league."

Also, Kelly felt that this year they have much more of a home-court advantage, as they moved from Westchester Community College (WCC), to this year playing much closer to home at Dobbs Ferry High-School, where they have posted a 7-3 record. With the end of the season approaching, (as of Feb. 23) the Flyers have already exceeded their wins by five, earning a near .500 record going 11-12(11-10 in conference games).

In the past eight seasons, it had only struck the two digit mark in the win column three times- twice earning 10 wins and one other time with 11. With a handful of games left, Flyers can earn themselves their best record in their last nine years
This can possibly be one of their best seasons in recent history, not just because of their promising finish, but because of how well they have played all year long, said Kelly.
The team was competitive in eight of the games that it ended up losing, as it was defeated by five points or less multiple times (in regulation time), including a one-point loss and an overtime loss.
