Farwell to my Faithful Companion

Abstract:
I remember it like it was yesterday. I begged my parents until they finally caved in and allowed me to get a dog.

We made our way to the Elmsford Animal Shelter ready to rescue a dog from the pound and bring it home. We found a German Shepherd mix breed that my father instantly fell in love with....

That is so sad. I don't have any pets in my household, but my sister has a dog that I absolutely adore and love like a niece! It's crazy how pets are just as important in the family as real people. Sorry to hear about Meena...she sounded like a great dog! She's in a better place and no more suffering :)

Wow!!! I did not know it was that serious. It is sad to read this. As Im reading it, I don't think about the fact that Meena is a dog, all Im sayin to myself is "poor little girl"...She was more than a pet to you and your family, and it shows. It makes it harder to go through issues like this when it is a pet, because they could never tell you how much pain they are in. I do have a pet dog at home, and all of my life I grew up with dogs, so I can imagine how hard it is to deal with a situation like this. Honestly, the part that touch me the most was about her dying and your mother's arms and how if the tables were turned, you would want to be around your loved ones. That trully lets people know that pets are family and can be treated like humans, because we love them and care for them just the same...Staying strong is the hardest thing but it does get easier. Just continue to remember the good days.

I've had the honor of knowing Meena for several years and it was her personality and beloved place in the family that inspired me to get a dog of my own. I didn't realize from all her energy that she was plagued with urinary tract infection since she was younger. Great article, Sean! Keep up the good work.
