Abstract:
Feb. 5 - Cris Carter was thought to be a Hall of Fame lock.
Apparently not.
Amazing numbers. Great leader. Elite career. One of the greatest possession receivers of all time. Kind of scary to think that he has more catches than EVERY player in the NFL Hall of Fame (Jerry Rice isn't eligible until 2010)....

Transparency needs to be added to the HOF process so that these writers' personal grudges and petty animosities are laid bare -- this will only help the process to induct the best players rather than the most popular or squeaky clean.
I for one shudder to think about the end-game of basbeball's mismanagament of its HOF players amid the steroid era. If someone finds out the names of those other 103 players who tested positive in 2003 (beside A-roid)there will be a major disaster for MLB.
Similarly, the NFL has a serious question to answer related to performance enhancers -- allegations have recently surfaced that steroids pervaded much of the entire league throughout the 1970's and early 1980's.
The "Hall" has never been about heroes. Instead, it has always been about business. Going forward, I would like to see the merits of the player's career become the single determining factor for potential induction into the Hall -- Then we can sit and say, "Yeah...that A-rod...I hated his pretty boy looks and his Madonna boy-toy physique....but WOW ! Could he hit and throw ...!"
I don't care if Lawrence Taylor was smoking Cocaine prior to snapping Joe Theisman's leg like a twig -- Too many of my high school football teammates were juicing for me to be confused into thinking it matters in the pros.
